I have been closely associated to the health insurance industry all my life. I grew up in a medical family with a father who was a general surgeon.   I watched him work many late nights and weekends caring for his patients. My oldest daughter was also drawn into the medical field and works as a nurse in one of the largest hospitals in Dallas in the cardiac intensive care unit. For me however, I chose a different route than medical school and long hours in a hospital. I decided to build a career helping people much like my father and daughter but instead as an independent health insurance agent in Plano, Texas.

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I started my career in health insurance.  There have been a lot of changes in the health insurance industry during that time:  Health reform and “Obamacare”, the vanishing of PPO networks for individual health insurance plans, the growth in short term “catastrophic” individual health plans. These changes have led to a growing interest in small group health insurance with as few as 1 or 2 employees on the policy.

Sound confusing? Yes, it can be if you try and navigate your health insurance choices by yourself.
